About the Products

Specialty Aluminas are synthetic products that have a variety of forms and an even wider range of uses. These are often identified as non-metallurgical aluminas to distinguish from smelter grade alumina, the principal feedstock for Aluminium metal production. Usually deriving from bauxite ore, subsequent process stages can produce Aluminium Trihydroxide (ATH), activated aluminas, boehmite, calcined alumina, tabular alumina and fused alumina products. Careful process control also produces a further wide variety of forms and grades within each of these categories.

Particular to each of these products are critical properties that make these key components in a broad range of applications. From the flame retardancy of ATH as a filler in plastic and rubber to calcined alumina in ceramic and refractory materials due to its mechanical strength, wear resistance, thermal, electrical and chemical properties in the finished components. Further sintering of alumina creates Tabular alumina, a key material for refractory products where high temperature strength and corrosion resistance are essential. Fused alumina exhibits superior hardness in addition and is an ideal material for bonded and coated abrasives, pressure blasting as well as refractories and ceramics. It is also used in wear resistance floorings and tiles.

Specialty Hydrates are widely used as a filler material in plastic, rubber, paper, PVC, paint etc and also in manufacturing several alumina chemicals

Specialty Aluminas: Unground aluminas, super ground aluminas and reactive aluminas of varying particle size, alpha phase content and soda content are produced as tailor made products, to meet the specific requirements of customers. The detail of properties are tabulated in our standard specification sheet/data sheet for each Spl. alumina product. The major applications of non - metallurgical grades of alumina are in refractory and ceramics, which require higher hardness, resistance to ware and abrasion, good thermal shock resistance, chemical inertness, high mechanical strength at higher temperatures and good electrical properties. Specialty aluminas are also used in the manufacturing of fused alumina, abrasives, tiles, glass, glazes, catalyst, spark plug, insulators, porcelain, grinding media, furnace parts, kiln furnitures, shapes and castables etc.
